Life Magazine
When LIFE began.
Did you know LIFE magazine wasn’t always about photography? When it first began in 1883, it was actually a humor and satire magazine full of cartoons and jokes.
Everything changed in 1936 when publisher Henry Luce (of Time fame) bought the name and reinvented LIFE as America’s first great photojournalism magazine. For decades, its bold, full-page images brought the world into living rooms—WWII battlefronts, iconic celebrity portraits, even the moon landing!
By the 1940s, LIFE sold over 8 million copies a week, making it one of the most influential magazines in history. Today, its photo archives remain a time capsule of the 20th century.
So if someone has ever told you to "get a life", now you know where to find one!
But hurry to get here before the cats get here, because they buy 9 at a time.
